Local Area Agreement

A Local Area Agreement (LAA) was an agreement between central and local government about priority outcomes and targets in a particular authority area.

In two tier areas such as West Lancashire, the County Strategic Partnership (Lancashire Partnership) was the body that  negotiated with Government Office North West (GONW)  and Lancashire County Council was the accountable body.

The West Lancashire Sustainable Community Strategy was  used to inform, and in turn was informed by, the last Lancashire Local Area Agreement (2008-11).

In October 2010, the government announced that there would be no requirement to prepare a new agreement from April 2011. GONW closed at the end of March 2011 as an outcome of the 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review.
