Local Area Agreement
A Local Area Agreement (LAA) was an agreement between
central and local government about priority outcomes and targets in
a particular authority area.
In two tier areas such as West Lancashire, the County Strategic
Partnership (Lancashire Partnership) was the body that
negotiated with Government Office North West (GONW) and
Lancashire County Council was the accountable body.
The West Lancashire Sustainable Community Strategy was
used to inform, and in turn was informed by, the last
Lancashire Local Area Agreement (2008-11).
In October 2010, the government announced that there would be no
requirement to prepare a new agreement from April 2011. GONW closed
at the end of March 2011 as an outcome of the 2010
Comprehensive Spending Review.
